North Queensland (NQ) Football congratulates eight junior footballers from the NQ Zone who have been selected for the Under 13 and Under 14 Queensland Country representative teams.
The Queensland Country teams will be competing against representative teams from across Australia at the 2019 FFA National Youth Championship (NYC) for Boys in Coffs Harbour, a five day tournament kicking off on Monday, 30 September and concluding on Friday, 4 October.
Played in a round-robin format, the NYC showcases some of the best young talent from each Member Federation and supports the development of talented players as part of the FFA’s player pathways.
NQ Football General Manager Declan Carnes said the selections show the tremendous success of NQ’s increase in funding for the new youth Talent Support Programs (TSP) following the decision to return the NQ United NPL Licence.
“The TSP program provides young players access to a quality training environment and the ability to participate in events such as the FQ Community Cup held in Cairns earlier this year,” Carnes said.
"Securing FFA A-Licence Coach Gareth Edds has been an integral part of the success of our TSP program and it's fantastic to see the number of NQ boys selected for the Queensland Country team."
Queensland’s state boy’s teams will be hoping to emulate the success of Queensland’s state girl’s teams’ successful campaign at the 2019 Westfield NYC for Girls in July, with the Under 14 side crowned National Champions and the Under 15 team finishing third in their group.
